Aircraft, and battles

Hi,
I'm playing a USMC campaign against Japan, and I noticed one thing ... in my last battle, Japanese losses included 9 aircraft. I don't remember them attacking me with/shooting down any of my aircraft, though. I did, however, have 9 F4U Corsairs -- did they shoot down the Japanese aircraft? Or is that not supposed to happen?
Thanks

I honestly have no idea. Is this a generated battle?...WB

It was a campaign battle, in late-1944, V.4.4. I thought it was a cool little CAP thing from my ground-support fighters, but my friend was skeptical...or does it represent the state of training of Japanese pilots by the late war?

Could it be a combination of computer speed and AA units shooting down planes at the map edge? I have a pretty speedy system and when the computer is taking its turn it becomes hard for me to keep up with the action. I can imagine some poor Cyber-Zero pilot having a juicy target lined up and then getting blasted as soon as (or before) entering the map
Of course, I could be wrong.

Could be caves or other such units.
Some units are mis-reported in End Battle screen.....(caves are counted as aircrafts etc.)

Oh, that was probably it, then.

(The caves thing). Thanks.
