Railway construction

Hello people, I've played older versions (Atari version in the eighties, SSI version mid nineties) of WiR, got back into it and downloaded v3.3. Im going at it as germans on the summer 41 campaign, but something keeps nagging me. Even though ive reached Pskov, moved past Davgaplis, railheads are stuck at the gates of Riga, and that for a full month and counting. Any hints on how the machine does the railway construction? Any way to influence that process? Thanks and regards, Pablo

The rail hexes should convert when their SL is within 2 of the maximum level, and connected to the main railnet for the side. Or I have always watched it go at 2 hexes per turn anyway, which may be the more accurate way to measure it. Either way, it should convert consistently from the end of the current length. There is nothing you can do to speed it up or change how it works.

Is this a game agains the AI? If PBEM, there could be a problem with players using different maps which would cause problems similar to this, but it would cause other discrepancies also.

Thanks for the info, my game is against the AI. However, Im still puzzled. Its 08.17.41 and I control the rail line that goes north east from konigsberg to pskov, passing through riga, and I do control all hexes south of row 11 up to lake ladoga, into pskow and then south east all the way to the junction at 41 18. Then a big bulge east, into velikiye luki, smolensk, gomel, kiev, odessa. However, my last hex with supply level of 8 at this stage in the sector of AG North, in that rail line from konigsberg to riga, is 26 19, a couple of hexes past the starting line! Ergo the rail hex at riga hasnt converted yet, even though the whole wehrmacht is way east, and therefore PzGruppe 4 is stalled with supply of 0 at Pskov.

This is even more puzzling as in AG Center the rail line goes up all the way east past mogilev and vitebsk, and past kiev in the sector of AG South.

So how can rail lines remain with less than 2 below full supply for almost two months?

If you would, send me your save game to rbancroftATatt.net. I will look at it and try to find out what is happening.

Thanks.

Hello!

I mean i have no real plan about this game, but what is with rail damage??? In some of my games i found that some rail hexes got damaged (mostly "rail damage 1"), but i never found out (and was never interested in doing it) what caused the rail damage: ground combat, air attacks, partisans, or random damage???

As i already said, i never watched the effects of rail damage on the supply system (i'm not even sure if the rail damage has any impact on the game or if it's a part of the non-working "air bridge attack rules").

The effect of rail damage on the supply system is simple, you can't transport supply through a damaged rail hex. Rail is always "damaged" when you first capture it, and partisans can damage it, and it takes time for it to "convert" for your use. Essentially, the last good rail hex is the "leash" on your panzers.
