Afrika Korps: Why different in WAW vs WIE?

The way they arrive is done differently in both games. Why not the same?

War in Europe was developed first and the method implemented there led to complaints that the Afrika Korps could just parachute in to North Africa, plus sometimes they were not all arriving as the Allies were pressing on their deployment locations and preventing them all from deploying.
So to avoid both issues a different approach was adopted with World at War which avoids those two issues.

I don't rule it out 100% but it's unlikely as there are always so many more pressing things to do, and doing so wouldn't be a quick five minute job.

Just curious how does the AI handle the DAK being deployed in Italy and not N.Africa? Does it still transport them over?

In the 1939 scenario the AI can choose to deploy Africa Korps to europe or Africa... with 100% chance of them selecting europe. I have never seen Germans in North Africa in vanilla.

I have seen the message AK deploys to....
Europe
Mediterranean
Not sure about Africa
In the first 2 do they require transporting across the med?

I have never played as axis
I have a current allied v AI game in which I have taken Tobruk and Benghazi and Tripoli is blockaded to zero, so no N.A. ports available
JAN 41 the AK deploys to the Med and spawn on land hexes around Sirte
So far I can see a panzer and a recon unit

Weird! Does the AI perhaps get the advantage of having the DAK spawn in Libya, whereas human players have to ship it across after it appears in Italy?
In principle, I don't mind giving the AI a few advantages (I find it's very easy to beat with a few unconventional gambits), but the situation you describe seems too ahistorical, as well as a violation/suspension of the game rules.
With that degree of Allied success and naval dominance in the Med, I think that OKH would have talked Hitler out of sending the DAK to Libya.

Seems like the fair way would be an event choice for human and AI. Choose to have the DAK spawn in Italy or N. Africa. N. Africa would cost more MPPs due to shipping. If N. Africa is allied held then auto spawn in Italy. This would prevent the abuse of DAK being spawned in allied held N. Africa.

I believe the AI does treat the DAK a bit differently and can start with it already in North Africa to give it some help in this theater.

I would vote to port the WiE approach to WaW. Maybe Allies get something extra to keep balance.

My preference, although this is unlikely, is to have it the other way around, i.e., the WaW approach ported to WiE.
