Why can't my Italian troops cross into France?

Hello all. Total newb to the SC series. I am playing the campaign with Italy on the side of the Axis. I have Italian troops at the French border with Grenoble right up the road. No French troops in sight. The game won't let me cross the border into France, even though Italy and France are at war. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Just to confirm: can Italy declare war in the war maps?

Well now that you mention it, I never specifically get that option. Messages pop up saying Italy is at war etc, but France is not even an option on the Diplomacy menu.

Not the diplomacy menue, but the "war maps", where you may declare war. Not very likely if you got the message that Italy is at war with the Entente, just to confirm. Click war map, select Italy and try to Dow France. This game separates between being alligned to one side while nevertheless being not yet at war with the other side.
The diplomacy menue is only to influence other nations.

Ok. I didn't know that because there is a 'declare war' option on the Diplomacy menu. Thanks

My fault. Missed this function so far, sorry!
