If you attempt an air strike then they do a naval move towards the target, instead of a message that the attack is invalid.

You have to be more specific.

I got CVs together attacked an at sea German fleet. Done
Moved toward the target selecting the next next to it. Done.

If you hold the mouse over the enemy fleet and right click again you will attack again. The computer can't distinguish when you click the enemy fleet from attacking or moving because you are in attack range of the carrier

So normally, having selected carriers, if you click on an enemy fleet within range they will attack.
However if you are out of oil they will move towards them.
You should get an error message in this situation, not a move that you never wanted to make.

Let me see what I can do.

Does it light up red for an attack?

It should only mark attacking hexes in red if you can attack. I am looking at the code and it does not mark attack hexes if you have no oil for the CVs.

It was an HvH game.
Can't remember if it lit up, I intended to do an attack and just clicked the hex - and then Bam, the carriers did not attack but moved instead.
Maybe the admiral thought he would try ramming them being out of aviation fuel [:D][:D][:D]

I checked the attack hex should not have been lit and you missed it. I assume it didnt allow an undo.

Very likely I did miss the highlight.
Not a bug, just slows down play if you have to check for highlights before every click.
