Convoy attacks

Why do both Soviet fleets get two convoy attacks ?

The only reason I can think of is that they are in the Baltic, all the ports are taken, so they have no link to a supply source.
Maybe MM can tell us what it looks like from his end.

One is against shipping to Finland or from Finland, and another is shipping from Sweden.

Each convoy gets attacked once per turn.

I didn't know that, but that being the case is kind of odd.

So shipping that is in an auto-convoy from an ally can not get attacked.
But if you ship it back from the lead country to a minor it can.

Double attacks makes no sense to me, so you have one convoy route shipping 100 units gets attacked once, while another shipping 5 each way gets attacked twice. And the double attack doesn't use any more supply, I thought most subs returned from missions because they were out of torpedoes.

What about with 3 convoys, does that get 3 attacks ? Should be possible with some routes if you are shipping production one way and oil another.

Rating ships or Subs attack all convoys in the area. If it only Attack One Convoy and people would be complaining about which Convoy at the tacking this one or that one small one or large one. So let's say I decide that it will attack the largest one. Someone will say well why isn't it attacking the small one. So to resolve all these things it just attacks all convoys in the lane.

Agreed, players might complain but it is makes little difference in the game as to whether you lose MM from one convoy or another - this is a very minor issue.

Having double attacks is significant, it is a free hit for the attacker. It makes no sense from a combat point of view.

Could you remove it. Pick which convoy at random or whatever, that is not important.

Yes makes sense with only one attack. Also do fleets in red supply never die? The Soviet navy just floats around there in the Baltic [:)].

The free hit is relative if escorts also strikes back in the 2nd attack tbh.

No, the second hit is 100% an advantage for the attacker. If they didn't want to engage in combat they wouldn't be there.

I made the convoy system more automated which created it's own problems. I put it on my list of things to improve.

How things work in coding, and in story writing, is that you make the 1st version. They you go back a few months later and say "why did I do it this way?!" then improve the system. Then go back a few months later and repeat process. Already several processes in the game I have changed and improved without anyone realizing it. So this is another one.

As for Soviet ships? Germans can't sink a bunch of crappy WW1 coffins out of supply?

It seems that the Soviet fleet can sit in the Baltic for ever with no ports, sinking merchants.
No detriment for being out of supply - am surprised at this one, so no need to ever return subs to port except to repair.
On the negative side they are burning up Soviet oil and there is nothing the Soviets can do to stop them, it's like a kind of sink hole in the Soviet economy.

It took me 30 seconds to realize that my baltic convoy lines would be vulnerable to the Russian navy. It took me 4 turns with 2 twin engine close support planes to sink the entire Russian navy in the Baltic. I didnt waste the oil on my fleet on such a trivial target.

Thanks T. I will also check for supply. Probably something I forgot.
