What exactly are "withdrawals"

Withdrawals are mentioned in the aide de camp. What does it mean? I dont get it from the manual :/

It's a German thing only. Some units, not many, were pulled out of Russia during the campaign.
There are a few mechanics around this to be aware of. Manual section 6.1.15 'Withdrawals', p209.
