I'm at level 4 anti sub but my Maritime Bombers and escort carriers wont go above 3.


why?

Different unit types have different maximums so that they don't get overpowered.

Is this a change?

I thought I'd had Maritime with level 4 before

Does a level 5 sub dive 80% of the time vs a lv 3 Maritime/escort?

That also would be overpowered.

It's always been that way.
Once at higher levels, the hits against subs are devastating. The damage done does not stay proportional.

Does a level 5 sub dive 80% (60%) of the time vs a lv 3 AS Maritime?

I don't how that makes sense if one side has sub lv 5 the other AS lv 5.

Effectively the side with the sub is negating the AS research/ Maritime strength by 40%(20%).

The manual says there is a 10% increase/decrease for each Sub/AS differential, my re collection is it was changed to 20%.

Could be wrong there also.

I know you guys are busy but the manual is very outdated and its difficult to find the historical update changes.

Iirc, dive chance us now 40% plus or minus 10% per Sub vs. ASW tech level.

As for the combat effectiveness (disregarding dives), through experience I've come to the following generalization in DD vs Sub combat:

ASW vs. SUB. Tech level:
0 vs 0 Favors subs slightly
1 vs 1 About even
2 vs 2 Favors DD moderately
3 vs 3 Favors DD
4 vs 4 Favors DD heavily
5 vs 5 Favors DD very heavily

Units that have enhanced sub attack (i.e. Maritime bombers, CVL and MT) values move up the chart 1, while CL and other cruisers move 1 down the chart.

If your ASW tech is better than Sub tech move up the chart, and if less than move down, but only about half a step per level.

So even a 3 ASW DD can hurt a 5 sub and is better off in many ways than a 0 ASW DD vs 0 Sub and definitely better off than a level 0 ASW vs level 1 sub.

My point is even if you are keeping pace Sub/ASW research the Maritime bomber/Escort Carrier is capped at 3 and you are losing effectiveness after 3 because the dive is increasing

that is unless the dive doesn't increase and is based on ASW research not Maritime rating

Is the sub dive (vs Maritime/Escort etc) based on ASW researched or the Maritime ASW (3 max)


3 ASW & 3 Sub researched = Maritime bomber 3 ASW vs lv 3 Sub = 40% dive

4 ASW & 4 sub researched = Maritime 3 ASW vs lv 4 sub = 50% dive or 40%

5 ASW & 5 sub researched = Maritime 3 ASW vs lv 5 sub = 60% dive or 40%
