Allies invade Iraq (or Iran) but don't take the capital.
Maybe the same would work for Portugal...
This creates oil convoys from Iraq to Germany. They cannot be cancelled.
Allies then destroy the German MM.

I turn off my convoy routes all the time when they are threatened by the allies. Go into the Convoys and Escorts screen....on the right is the list of Convoy Routes. Just click the name with the big checkmark.

My mistake, didn't think you could switch off this type of convoy but it seems you can.
