3.1.0.1 Trade

Changing resources traded does not work.
- Changes are ignored.
- Changes are taken, and then switched back.
- And my favourite, changes are made, but then the program does something different anyway. See picture. Here CW changed the Cyprus resource to be traded to France. But for some reason it used 4 CPs on a route that should only take 2 CPs. And when I looked at it I saw that the reason was that the route still sent it UK but listed it as going to France...

Check the default of this resource in the CW. It's probably stating that it is going to Hull...
Erase that. After you've done this, go to the French production planning and choose a factory where it has to go.
It should be OK after you've done this...

I am going to try this. Thank you.

It was indeed going to hull as default. No change by clearing it. So I tried setting it to idle first, and then to trade it. And then it got really interesting. See picture. So it is listed as going to production but use no route nor any CPs. But the program doesn't count it to increase the French production so I suspect the program still think it has the 'idle' order.

Here is the save.

Might have solved the Cyprus thingie by ordering the Cyprus resource to be produced in Paris (even though it said it was being produced in Paris).

1) Ordered the oil in Port of Spain to be traded to France.
2) France ordered the oil to be saved on Martinique.
3) France ordered the oil to take the route through the Caribbean Sea.
4) Worked as a charm
5) France order the idle resource in Indo-China to be reproduced for in France and it is automatically routed through the Med.
6) Switch to CW and notice that I do not have 1 CP available in Mouth of Amazon as I think I have,
7) Begin checking routes to find the culprit.
8) And it seems to be the oil in Port of Spain. But now one can't change the route... see picture.

9) Switch to CW, and then back to France and now I can reroute it.
10) However, every change I make change the route back to the Mouth of Amazon. For example. I sent a oil saved in UK to produce in Glasgow, and the oil route change from Caribbean to Mouth of Amazon.
11) And changed it back and in the summary all looks well.
12) Close to praying to a deity that it stays well after I advance to next step.

And sure enough, closing the form changes it back...

Don't bother making any changes until USSR breakdowns. At USSR breakdowns go into the production screen and make changes for all nations. When final production appears you should be able to click your way thru. I find the best way to get BP and resources to go where you want is to idle off the ones using the same path. After your BP trade gets picked up go and have a look at unused CP's and find the ones routing resources thru areas you don't any...like those going thru North Atlantic to Bay of Biscay instead of Faeroes. Usually the biggest issue is a resource or BP coming the long way around past Cape town using a dozen CP's.

I have seen Majorball68 suggest this before and have tried it. Doing your adjusments here does seem to stick a bit more reliably then during the planning phases.

Yes, it is finicky...
I've always been able to get it to work, though it often does take some effort manually routing each one. You'll have to reroute them manually quite often when more than one path can work for a resource. I find the same challenges in China with Japan sometimes, so keep your eyes on it every time there's potential for a convoy shift. I thought about the AI for that, and it's even more tricky than supply because it's like an "Operations Research" production optimization problem, which is some pretty advanced industrial engineering.
If Shannon ever finds a ton of free time (!), "Operations Research" would have a mathematical answer to the convoy problem. If I ever find the free time, I'll send him an algorithm... Anyone else already trained on it willing to donate to the community?
In the meantime, I've always been able to get it to work with fiddling.

Thank you. [&o] [:)]
This worked.
I had it all changed as I wanted it in the preliminary step, and it all seemed to be the same in final production. But when the actual production came there were BPs missing. But doing it all in the Soviet breakdown step worked.
Thank you.

Yes works a treat for PBEM. The Axis player gives me his final production requirements so there is no passing of saves from USSR breakdowns until Axis builds. You can even change the source of resources and BP lent to other countries at USSR breakdowns. So much better than getting that pop up during final saying you can't!
