Basic question - unit colors

Just bought and installed the game and I have a silly question - can units of the same division have the same color? I opened Kasserine 43 and both panzer divisions are white. Is there a setting to have units of the same division the same color, like in WitE say? Thanks.

Hello, I will take a stab at this question:

Unit colors are set by the scenario designer.

For me, I use a graphix mod that "highlights" for easier view, the "formations" that have been set by the scenario designer.

Will post the graphix mod I use in a few...need to find it first.

EDIT: I have been using Telumar's "BLUE" grafx mod, not the map mod, but the "BLUE" GUI has the "highlight" on formations that is very helpful to me.

Link to his discussion is here:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4757572

NB note: I used the "BLUE GUI" file from that first link in that message, I dropped that unzipped file into my "Graphics Override" folder, along w/ a few of the tiles from the other link (most particularly, broken RR and and blown bridges mods) but for me, the BLUE GUI was very helpful in seeing formations. It "highlights" the formations much better than the TOAW default. See, e.g., some of my more recent AARs to see the better highlights on formations.

Also, please familiarize yourself w/ how TOAW grafx works before using these mods, and be careful to "secure" any defaults you might want to restore if you don't like the mods ... for me, some of Telumar's modifications were too "bright" for my eyes, and I had to tweak a lot of settings before getting it to work to my liking.

I hope this helps!

All units having the same color indicate a high degree of cooperation. See page 47 of the manual for details.

If you wish to change one formation to have different colors, you have to load the scenario in the scenario editor and then select the force editor option. Suggest you save the scenario to a different file name, don't overwrite the stock scenario. This is the button to change unit colors.

Cheers

Thanks cathar1244, but would a PBEM opponent need to do the same?

Unsure, but I think you would have to start the PBEM game with the same scenario version on both sides, so any change to the colors would have be done beforehand and the modified file downloaded by your opponent.

Cheers

Interesting question. From my personal experience. I've nodded my scenarios, for instance terrain, bridges and roads, these types of mods, used the PBEM++ server and haven't had an issue in gaming. Not sure about the legacy PBEM, though, or if these type of benign mods matter. I would think unit type would though.

Chiming in here, from my experience:

Your opponent will only see the grafx modifications that THEY have done, not yours.

IOW, you may see the game in your own view,
but your opponent will only see game in their own view.

I hope this helps!

Changing Unit Colors is not a Graphic Mod, it is a Scenario Change. Pbem Players must play with the same scenario. [:)]

Unit colors are saved with (within?) the scenario. https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4385511
