Apparently there's a glitch or a mistake that the Italian corps cannot split into divisions. It's apparent that Germans, of course can, and even the Axis Balkan allies.

This is working as designed to represent the crappy organisation of the Italian Army.

I'd like to hear what Alvaro says about this.
Apparently all the other countries can split.
I have a long-range plan when I play War Plan, at least for the Axis. I send some trade to the Balkan countries -- they're able to produce combat units. I send them (newbies) to the Russian front to gain experience, and I send experienced units back for occupation or partisan duty. This way, it's teamwork, making use of the overall Balkan country manpower and increased troop experience level. It is worth it in the long run.

Italian divisions were incredibly crappy units not capable of any proper defensive or offensive ability beyond taking on an angry mob of peasants. They were also very small. Only the navy was decent.

So why not counterfactual?
I believe if Italians are adequately supported and equipment updated they can become the equivalent of British capability, later in the war.
If I wanted exactly historical simulation I can read a book.

A thing that I like to do in a strategic game like this try and make Italy a better nation both in their economy and their military. I really like having the option to try.

The game is moddable and you can change the Italians any way you like. But even in SC3 the Italians suck.

I appreciate the reply. I'm one of those who doesn't know the first thing a modding and I haven't any interest in learning. I play games as the designer intended but sometimes they do alter some of the origional game release.

Take some Italian Armor and increase tech there, use that... Or take some Italian Mountain Infantry and train them up on some softer targets. They're not useless but they will never stand up to the Majors!

I have had in a PBEM game up to 6 Tactical Bombers(don't ask me why) I was just curious as to what to do with the Italians. I was a bit of a waste as the fuel cost would of been better spent elsewhere. Use Italians as Garrisons instead of the Germans.
