Effectiveness of CV aircraft

In the manual it indicates that if a CV is in Naval/Tactical mode it is more effective against ships. It seems to imply that it is not as effective attacking ground units. If this is correct then Mix mode means less effectiveness for Naval/Tactical attacks but air attacks against the CV will be intercepted although I also assume that CAP mode makes interception more effective.

I hope that someone will also tell us what mix exactly does. I haven't used it yet. I've only used the other two because I know exactly what I'm getting.

Mix is literally going down the middle when it comes to being either in Intercept mode, or Naval/Tactical mode. For example, Carrier planes will still intercept while in Mix mode but their interception effectiveness will be halved. They can also perform a tactical strike but that attack value will be halved as well.

CV is not useful against ground forces in general. There are times when it makes sense strategically (like US attacking islands) but it's an expensive in terms of MPP option.
