Gameplay question: Air warfare

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for DC:CP gameplay questions, so please scold me if I am misposting.
Having only played DC: Barbarossa before, I am just now learning how to use the air forces. I have grasped how to use airstrikes and recon, but how do I make my fighters intercept enemy fighters and provide air cover or air superiority?
