Invasion Guide?

Would really appreciate some sort of invasion guide because it has been a nightmare figuring out the game systems to do one successfully.

And if one exists already it ought to be stickied.

----------------

Here is what I know so far:

1. Ensure you have landing craft, each point of landing craft covers 1 strength of a land unit.
2. You load units onto transports in a friendly port, which takes their entire activation.
3. You can then in the next turn move the unit but ideally they should be in a navy stack including surface vessels for escort or else they will get destroyed easily by enemy air.
4. Once near enemy coast, you click the invasion toggle and under certain circumstances which I don't understand, hexes in red will be invade-able.

Weather appears to have some impact on whether or not a hex can be invaded but I'm not sure. Cold clear won't work, heavy rain doesn't work either. I am not sure regular rain is do-able or not. I had thought maybe I did an invasion of Norway as Germany in regular rain but now I can't remember. Would really appreciate clarity here.

I suspect the terrain in the hex matters too, something to do with percent of the hex being water but I'm not really sure.

Anything else I am missing? Can anyone explain for us newbs?

#1 armor and mech are 2x landing craft cost.

#3 well if you are foolish enough to send empty unprotected transports, they get killed.

#4 You need to be on a beach or coastal hex.

Thank you for responding Alvaro.

Where is the latest manual? The ones in my game install folder don't specify what version they are for and the page numbers don't seem to match up.

Could you please clarify what weather allows for invasions?

And can you point out what I'm doing wrong here? I can't seem to get the red hex. It is normal rain but I thought maybe you could invade. My transport is in a beach hex and I have sufficient landing craft for regular infantry.

New invasion manual. It is also in the beta section and I will post it on the FAQ of steam
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VN8ug ... xOIrMOYPIY

Updated manual v1.00.06
https://drive.google.com/open?id=17HZEN ... kAK8qr1Irw

I will have a correction in the future for invasions where it will only be allowed in the hex the fleet is in.

Great invasion guide, thank you Alvaro.

I still don't understand why I can't invade the British beach hexes as Germany in my screenshot above...

There are beach hexes there, I have enough landing craft, enough operation points.

So I think I figured it out, I think even infantry need 2 landing craft per strength... I could invade after building even more craft. But it isn't 1 to 1 like described. None of the units I used were motorized or mechanized, or even armor.

I know that invading in the hex itself is (even on top of an enemy unit) going to be in Warplan Pacific, but are you going to port that over to Warplan ETO as well?

This is something I forgot to clarify in the rules book. If I remember correctly the weather "cold" was added later in beta.

Any zone that has a potential for snow or blizzard that month can't be invaded. Thus why you can't invade. I will clarify it in the rules book and add an additional icon to the weather system for the next update.

If this was a summer month and rain you could invade. So the snow/blizzard months with rain will also have a cold icon with it int he future update.

Thanks for spotting this.

Pacific will NOT have on top of. That is WarPlan 2. I said i wish I did it that way. The engine would require a massive rework to have it same hex invasions.

Still looking for clarification on landing craft requirement.

The guide states "An invasion requires 1 landing craft for every strength point of an infantry"

But that is straight up false. Or at least a bug. In my screenshot above the 30 strength Infantry Large Corps could not invade with 40 landing craft. The guide as written would say I could. It was only after I finished building more landing craft that I could invade.

Can this be double checked?

I wish the invasion button would display the cause of it being disabled in a tool tip. That would help with the learning process.

It can. Your situation is that you are invading in a COLD month and the weather is rain. So there is no indication to tell you that. It is something I didn't realize when I put in cold weather as an invasion stopper.

So if this is October. It is a cold month with a 10% chance of snow. Thus no invasions possible in clear or rain weather. I just forgot to make the icon for it and write in the rules. So I have to update both.

Alvaro, again, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I think that helps resolve why I was running into issues.

Only one question remains, which months are the ones where snow and blizzard are possible?

I would guess:
October, November, December, January, February? Maybe march?

Look in the game manual section. There is a weather chart.

Or all the latest manuals are here.

Your welcome. All I ask is when you evaluated the game please write a review on Steam for me. For better or for worse. Even bad reviews help me improve the game.

I have a G infantry corps trying to invade norway. 30 LC available, weather warm + perfect everywhere, I sit on the hex S of Oslo as per someone's example, press the 'invade' mode button correctly (all the warships in the hex have the tick in their box removed) but my unit refuses to land anywhere, however often I press L or R mouse button. Tried from a few other hexs too (PvE game) but I gave up in the end.
Someone wrote that a eligible hex you can land troops on shows red, but I never see that.
What am I doing wrong?

Does the fleet have an operation point left to invade?

Is the land unit in garrison status? Garrison status units can't invade.

What month is it?
