Just started a game of version 1.12.04 as the Axis. When my Soviet opponent returned his turn one move, much to my astonishment, he had bombed the Finnish air force and most of the Finnish units along the border. I have played a while now and have never seen that happen before. Has this ability always been there? Is it something new? To make matters worse, it is now my turn 2 and the Finns are still completely frozen, both ground and air. You would think that the Finn's would have at least activated their military so as to be able to respond to an attack like that. Is this intended or have I just never seen it before?

Yes it happened in the team games and was documented in their AARs. There were a lot of jokes about it between the teams when it happened.

I have talked to some people about it, and seeing that the Finns are still not unfreezing (even the airforce), I will decline to continue it this game until the actual forces have unfrozen. I believe in terms of gameplay they should probably unfreeze upon getting attacked. Also what came up in discussion is that the LW has the opportunity to ship airfields up there 1) to defend and 2) to even get a head start on Osinovets.

While we're here, I would like to bring up another issue with the Finns. What are the exact unfreezing mechanics for the Finns? Typically, the orange, northern, Karelian army unfreezes turn 4 and the Kannas army turn 7 and turn 10. I have had different unfreezing in several games where SU opponent reinforced the line.

I would say the normal is Finns unfreeze on turn 4 and 5. The Kannas army will only not unfreeze on turn 5 if you attack certain Soviet units opposite them with the Karelian army on turn 4.
