Steam will be available once these guys have a little bit of a go around. Reason is that Steam is new and still generating a lot of sales. I don't want some major blunder in a beta hitting there specifically that impacts the game. So once these guys are like "cool", "neat", "nice", "hey this sucks change it" and I do, then I will put up a steam open beta.
Once things settle in steam and WarPlan has enough forward momentum there there should be no delay. But 1st month sales and reviews are critically important to the success of the game. The market on steam is generally very different than the one here. Less wargamers and more casual players. I can tell by the return rate on steam already the difference.
I know 2-3 of these guys will nit pick the beta to pieces and let me know what's wrong quite quickly.

While I respect your choices, it is disappointing to set the game aside for at least a month... [:(]

It won't be a month. Very likely 1 week once the testers here run through it.
I just said the 1st month is critical and I can't blindly put out a beta right after release. It would be confusing for players.
