More supply qu's

In my last turn, I sank over 300 axis supplies (and an Italian corps [8D]) by blockading ports taken by invasion. The manual describes the effect of lack of supplies to the land units, but do the losses do any more? Do these supples come out of the axis stockpile and/or oil reserves and/or does this have any affect on the number of axis transports or merchant ships? If not, this seems very strange and part of the problem of spammed invasions.
I should add that I'm not complaining about silly (from a real life persective) invasions per se, but querying the real cost of them.
On a separate note, am I right to assume that only cities in the country of origin can be a supply source for a unit? In other words, is Paris a supply source for Germans after France has been conquered? I have read the manual (like all good lawyers do) and assume the answer is no, but it is always sensible to double check (as all good lawyers also do).
Thank you in advance
