I'm trying to determine the pros and cons of Germany conquering Vichy France (only, not other Vichy places) in 1940. Seem like they would get some extra pp (8) and a strategic resource. What is the down side? Anybody done this recently?

Yes, I(axis) negotiatied surrender to form a vichy france in 1940, and conquered it in 1945.The pro is that comparing with conquer france, wage war on vichy france is much easier: all former army was disbanded due to the treaty. the cons are same with conquer france in 1940: netural vichy navy would be controlled by UK.(but this time Italian navy could intercept them)

You need to ask @sveint. I do not know if he has refused Vichy or attack Vichy just after but, then, he has invaded Spain and this was deadly.

Conquering France means fleet goes to Allies but you can freely take the N/A colonies.
Vichying then attacking them means Vichy fleet will join Allies as will all the colonies.
Not conquering Vichy if Allies take Paris means Vichy aligns with Allies

haha I attacked Spain only to gain Gibralta, and to conquer Spain I decleared war on Vichy France. Isn't that great? These things all happened in 1945, when USSR finally surrended and France is held as the eastern front no longer needs many troops.

Is Mers El Kebir possible in the game ? (ie RN attacking French "Vichy" Navy, but no DoW?) Seems not...

The only advantage to not accepting the French surrender is that you gain the ports in Syria and can ship in units there without invading.

Unless the Allied player is alert (they usually aren't) before they know it you've shipped in several corps and Egypt is yours!

The disadvantages are huge though, more time and losses in France.
