Experience - Thoughts

Do be quite honest, I don't understand the mechanics for gaining experience in battle.
First of all it is not mandatory that a unit will increase its experience by participating in a battle and secondly even if it gets some experience most probably will suffer some hits which will result, when reinforced to full strength, to loss of experience and drop below the initial level. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it. Consider experience the quality of the unit.

if you can always trap your enemy in some pockets, and attack them several turns later at their weakest condition, you can achieve some victory with no loss, and keep doing that you will have some really wonderful unit and a lost war.[:D]

Normal battle causes too much loss that units alway having an experience almost equal to the national experience. So watch your manpower expecially when playing axis, I've been in a 22% national exp, my aryan supermen almost as useless as luxemberg warriors.

Your desciption seems fine, and the manuel didn't made it clear indeed. The only way to improve your unit's experience is to fight more, and make sure they suffer loss.

I believe the manuel did say, low manpower would cause national exp get lower, please do check that. Current version has a very high airunit manpower loss in combat, the latest update(1.0007U7) fixed that.

Manpower repair. It still loses strength. Just means it doesn't use manpower to repair. The experience is in the pilots which is the most important part of the air unit.

Actually the best way for the Russians to gain experience is to just lose factors fighting during the winter. The replacements come back at 50% and will raise any unit with less then that.
