Don't want to be przumptuous but here's what you'll find in the ART game folder.

I do not recall a specific tutorial on this. There is guidance for making art mods in the "Art Mods" sticky thread in the Mod Forum.

As the Gorn has posted the file is easy enough to find, I've not tried to update the colors in it myself. For my $ there are way too many high quality art mod efforts done by others far more skilled than I. (I think...I've used many over the years) the one I'm currently using came from (https://sites.google.com/site/bigbsshipyard/home). Am using with LST's game mod and have all the cool nation state related rainbow of colors for units...[8D]

Happy Gaming,

Kevin

May want to move that question over to the Scenario Design and Modding forum, it is quite active. I just benefit from those good folks art work and game updates, not a competent contributor, so could not provide a specific answer.

If you look in the ART folder you will see a number of different Button bitmaps. Some of them are listed as spares. You can do some renaming of them to change
the color scheme.

To change the colors of the on-map icons you'd probably need a graphic program to either change the unit colors or substitute a flag on one of the existing colors. A lot of the spare color map-icon files in the ART folder have blank flags.

For example, overlaying the US Flag into the French flag in the map icon file for the Free French and saving it as mapiconsA.bmp will give you blue on map ship and unit icons for the U.S. Of course, they'll be the same colors as the French units, but there are not many French forces in the game that it's worth worrying about. Either that or you'd have to change the French to another color altogether.

You could change the French to a white cross in the upper left with a white background. White stripes alternating with white stripes for the rest of the flag. [8|]

Isn't that the Italian flag?

Bad jokes aside:

France lost about 210.000 soldiers and Italy about 330.000. The US lost about 407.000 - from a population base more than tree times larger than either France or Italy. Civilians included, France lost about 610.000 people or 1,44% of its pre-war population, Italy about 500.000 or 1.2%, and the US less than 420.000 or 0.32% of its prewar population. Just to put things in perspective.

I'm not sure PAINT can fix this. That pink is alpha.

I know that the french lost a lot of people in WWII, quite a few by Allied bombing as well. But I read about that flag in a book . . .
