Question regarding hex assets

I've been watching all the let's plays, and something isn't quite clear to me. The hex assets like "science ship", "security outpost" and others which give research, bureaucratic points and such, do they need to be connected with a road to function or just having them inside your borders is enough?

I think as long as its in your borders, it's applied?

There are in fact Hex Perks (which are fully independent and just need to be within a Zone for their effect to be applied) and Assets which are actually tied into the private/public economy and require workers and what not.

Best wishes,
Vic

The hex assets like that don't require any logistics support and you just need to be able to trace back through your territory to your HQ. If it gets cut off you don't get the benefits from what I can tell.

Ahh thanks for that distinction. I was referring to Hex Perks in my question, just didn't name them right :)

Sweet, not needing a road connection to the Hex Perks makes them even nicer.

Sorry for the thread necro, but didn't want to create a new one.

Question: is the bonus from say, a "Derelict Ancient Mech", a one-off or per turn?

In other words once I've collected it, do I need to care about protecting the hex in the future (to retain the bonus)?

As far as im aware, it provides a continuous bonus every turn as long as you retain control over it.

So for example if youre playing a world that has low population, any hex "goodie" that gives you recruits or colonists, is worth dedicating entire armies to, because over time it might win you that game.

All hex assets work the entire game.

Note however that "Bonus points for X" are not 1:1 translated to X. Instead all sources of bonus points are summed up, then the square root is taken from that sum to get the actuall bonus to X.

If you click on a hex perk in the assets menu, it literally shows you this:
