Ok here it comes.
I have played the steels for a long time and actually abandoned hope after my computer didn“t run steels anymore (propably because damned windows) but then found this EXELLENT game and the long lost friend could be played once again

.
To the question, how do I play an online game??
My friend has an ip address he can use to make servers, we have played for example, age of mythology, mechwarriors etc..
WHY this game does not work through the internet??
And I try to use the combat net v.3.2 and it does not connect to the server, does it work anyhow??
-Thanks for reading this

Yes the online play works in Spwaw but it has some problems (like not showing everything during opponents turn). Anyway, it's great fun

I have tried it.

You need the IP address of the Host computer. I have a router with several computers and I cannot be the host (at least as far I can figure out). When I log into on-line play it tells me my IP address but it is only the address with-in my LAN and cannot be accessed from outside my network.
What we did was to Log onto the network and email the current IP address to my opponent (well actually him to me). I joined him on-line and you take it from there. You will need the set-up done ahead of time. If you are on dial-up, well, its just not enjoyable IMHO. But it is live and you can message back and forth. The turn time is in seconds in the perferences. 3 minutes seems to be the the normal play time per according to the Forums thread that I have read. I take longer than that just plotting artillery.
I hope this helps.
Ok

Yeah its good to know that the game SHOULD function properly we both have spwaw 7.1 and the other guy CAN make servers, but anyhow the game apparently does not need any other program to function in online play.
Thanks
ps. if anyone has any ideas why it does not work or something please do write them here.
pps. thanks again

Hi
Do you use a firewall or a router of some sort? I use a linux machine to forward the outgoing and incoming network traffic to the right place. You need to allow SPWaW to use certain ports for its traffic and also if you use NAT you need to specify these ports routed from the routing machine to the one running the SPWaW server (on your network) and vice versa to an outside server. The ports in question UDP 7002 and TCP 7002. With these ports open & routed I can host SPWaW games and also join games created by others. Also, I know a friend who just can't host games because of his ISP. He can join online games though.
Hope this helps

I recommend you PM Mogami. He is always looking for an online game, but no one has the time.
