H2H and SPWAW divergance

I am concerned about divergance between SPWAW 7.1 and H2H. I noticed the obo's for SP 7.1 are being revised as are the H2H OBO's. These two games will continue to diverge with each revision. I would like to see a SP 7.2 which combines these revisions back to one game. What are the chances?

If I understand you correctly, you're saying you believe one or the other should be deemed the 'official' version, since 'combining' them would be a matter of selecting which OOB you prefer.

FWIW, I always considered H2H to be v7.2 :D

I still don't like the point values assigned to the units in H2H. But the new units are really cool. With the expected elimination of the Willy Meter ("*") in H2H's update, I'm not sure I'm going to like that either.

However, I will happily play either one. So, it looks like we'll have 2 slightly diverging games. If you can play one, I think you will always be able to play the other. After all, no one is changing the source code (or whatever you call it).

Theres much more to H2H than just OOB changes...
Im sure there is athread somewhere that tells all..

IMHO

I think that the purpose with the H2H mod to be used for human vs. Human games is very, very good. PanzerLeo is doing a great job and I’m really looking forward to it.
The new revised official 7.2(?) OOBs’ I think should be used with games against the AI. If the two different OOBs’ diverge for the sake of this matter, I think it’s all a good purpose and should be encouraged.

The chances of H2H and the present 7.1 merging are, according to all sources, nil.

The elimination of the "Willy Meter" is not necessary. Anyone can press "*" while playing and it will be turned off.

Even though it off, it will still be possible to see whether you're in enemy LOS, at least if you're an infantry unit. It happens so that infantry units lose movement points from being in LOS, so that pretty much tells you the enemy is near even though the willy meter is officially off.

I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the willy meter.

Who gave it this silly name, anyway!? :)

Its from 'the willies', which means an uneasy feeling (i.e. "that old house gives me the willies"). I guess if you learned your English from sources in the U.K. a 'willy meter' would appear to have a completely different meaning. :D

I hadn't thought of that. It reminds me of when Gallo Rojo wanted us to admire his Red **** avitar. ROTFLMAO.:D

Edit: It looks like the censors added "c0ck" to the banned list since then. Perhaps they should ban "willy" too.:D

Uh Oh !

Hi Svennemir,

Regarding the “willy meter” I have to disagree with you.
You can turn the thing on or off in a game and that’s the problem. It’s not a secure setting in the preferences so it’s useless in PBEM games. That’s why I think it should stay in 7.1 but be deleted from H2H.
And yes, you can get that information with a unit moving and there it serves a purpose. It gives you that “ghost feeling” that you just got spotted. With the “*” turned on OTOH you can move a unit back and forth until the “*” disappears and then you know your unit isn’t seen. This movement won’t show on the replay either, unless the unit gets shot at.

Hmm, more important comment would likely be, if they release Combat Leader, and it lives up to our hopes, will you insist on playing Steel Panthers in any guise at all?

Steel Panthers WaW/H2H/WW2/MBT/3 are all first rate games that I enjoy greatly.

But I am waiting to play Combat Leader.

And when Combat Leader is released, I am hoping all the Steel Panthers geniuses out there let the game retire to a well deserved and honoured place in my memory.

Because I want them working on Combat Leader actually.

Short of Matrix not getting Combat Leader out this year, I am not particularly concerned if another variant update version of Steel Panthers is ever made for any version.

Let's face it, the game is already great. And if you are only just now starting to play it, the most important question is...

What the heck have you been wasting your time with all this time?

And to think some of us have not only SPWAW 7.1, but also SPWAW H2H, alongside SPWW2. Now if only someone would make a H2H for SPWW2 we'd be all set.

I have every single known version of Steel panthers myself, even the first ever version (I play it occasionally just for the lark of it all).

Hey Lars :)

Guess I'm not competitive enough as a person to see the point with disabling the asterisk in H2H.

Whoa les.

So that's, lemme see, those must be

SP1
SP2: Modern Battles
SP3: Brigade Command
SP: World at War
SP: World War II
SP: World at War H2H
SP: Main Battle Tank

Quite a collection actually!

Hard to say how much different is different.

But yes I have that list.

I also have Steel Panthers Civil War, and Steel Panthers War of the Worlds I have not gotten around to giving a go yet.
I have also taken a look at Steel Panthers the Board game, but the stuff looked a bit odd on my first wander through.

How can one get those mods?
What is Steel Panthers War of the Worlds about, WWI?
I saw a civil war thread some time ago, what is the news with it?

Artur.

Hmmm now to remember where I found them.

War of the Worlds is you vs Martians, yes I said Martians.

Let me see if I can locate the link you need. Will post back later if lucky.

Les, I posed this same question to David Boutwell last summer: I was looking at the mammoth task of updating the SHP files, and mentioned that it could be a waste of time with CL on the horizon. He pointed out that once a game reaches 'second tier' status is the time when modders become really active with it. He cited several examples, including SPWAW itself. I no longer have the message, but it was persuasive enough to change my thinking and make me decide to proceed with the project. Just as you (and I) have a few versions of SP installed now, I'm sure many will have some iteration of it on their computer long after CL's release.

Not having aaaaaany luck finding where I found the darned files.

I can either

A. arrange to send them to you (not best idea) or...

B. you can look into this email

sbringolf@hotmail.com

(which is contained in a txt file message contained in the files, as the author of War of the Worlds.

or this name

Sami Heimola

who appears to be the creator of SP Civil War.

Can anyone else add any detail to this?
