Finishing off my update for Downfall and I ma hitting an issue with US CAG's they constantly resize themselves down to c 60 planes and only 12 F6F's I am at my wits end trying to stop them reducing tried rezsizing tried setting them to 42/42 in the editor - anyone know the trick to stopping them resizing

Doesn't appear to happen to RN Carriers so its a US specific thing

When you say "CAG", do you mean what was covered in this thread?

No Alfred sorry its the 4 - 5 sqns on USN Carriers as per stock with capaicty of 90 on an Essex class

The sqns are resizing themselves to

18 F6F
18 F4UD
15 Helldivers
15 TBM's

So only using 66/90 capacity - as a player not a huge issue I can manually reset them to normal levels but the AI keeps reducing them down when its in charge and its driving me to distraction

Not that I expect many players to play Downfall as japan but I would like it to work both ways if possible

Perhaps give them a resize date that's on or a day before the scenario end date? Pretty sure the AI won't override date-based resizing.

To clarify, they would start off at whatever size you want (f/e 27 F6F) , and then be given a resize value (f/e 25 F6F or even 27 F6F) with an effective date in late April 1946 (a day or so prior to your scenario end date). Maybe at that point the AI will size them downwards, but by then it shouldn't matter.

I've seen a few air units in Scenario 1 which resize to the exact same size, so presumably that would work. Check out 253 Ku S-2 which arrives on 9/1/43 with 36 airframes, yet resizes to 36 on March 1944.

Your problem is with the VBF squadrons.

They need to be set to not resize at all in the editor.

Try this with VF9 and VBF9 (CV Essex)

1.  With VF9

(a) squadron 12-36 size selected
(b) start off with 36 ready aircraft
(c) set to resize to ship size

2.  With VBF9

(a) squadro9n 12-36 size selected
(b) start off with 18 ready aircraft
(c) set to not resize

If that doesn't work I'll dig up an old michaelm75au post where he had trouble with getting the 1943 USN carrier resizing to work properly.

I assume set to resize means leave the max field blank and set to not resize means put a value in that field ??

Appreciate the help Alfred this one has me stumped

Yes except you have VF9 as not resizing. I'm suggesting you try it with resizing to fit ship selected. If that doesn't work then I will track down that micahelm75au post to see what clues it provides.

More fuel to add to the fire.

Read this thread:

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3260001&mpage=1&key=resize&#3260420

A post of mine quotes in full an earlier michaelm75au detailed post on resizing.  Michael then added further commentary.

I have to dive into Paint to answer your query on how it is done.  Be back soon.
