Oops sorry Demyansk - I resurrected an old thread whilst you were posting - I'm looking for any reports on whether the game is a worthwhile buy ?

It's really old school and I would call it a Solitaire game with a lot of decisions to make while controlling the movement of a tank in battle. It seems you have decisions to make but the one thing that will turn off almost everyone is the graphics. If you can get by that, it's worth t h e cheap price. The one thing I like is that you can take your time with each decision. Also, it's really keyboard driven, mouse rarely used.

It is worth the 5 dollar price tag ; excellent solitare game based on Avalon hills "Pattons Best" , graphics dont effect it at all due to the many decision choices left to the player ; no mouse at all, it is all keyboard driven with many campaigns to choose from. Now based on board games Im wishing for "The hunters" "the hunted" "silent victory" or "Bloody April" to be ported to pc.

Thanks for the info pkpowers & demyansk. I still have my old copy of "Patton's Best" - however a computer version would be good. I have gotten out of the habit of doing all the bookkeeping needed.
As for myself - I'd like to see a computer version of "B17 Queen of the Skies" . I've got Target for Today but it can get bogged in the details.

I must confess, the graphics REALLY put me off, so I downloaded the free, earlier version, and what do you know, it's rather good. Worth buying the new version, despite my serious reservations.

The only thing that detracts for me about the graphics is the lack of any terrain graphics on the scenario layer map. Terrain is only attached to hexes with units in them, mousing over the other hexes reveals nothing. I asked the Dev in the Steam forums, he replied, he had terrain graphics in, in an earlier version but found it cluttering things up and canned it. Dev says he can look into adding something. There are different types of terrain inside a hex, hence relocate command to shift in a hex to get LOS, but you never know what terrain your moving into in the hex your in or the hexes next to you. I can see the Dev's point about hex clutter in a game visually made like this. i finished the Poland campaign from German perspective. Will try another campaign to see what other mission types are like to play. The main frustration i came across was having to take shot after shot to at enemy units to clear the map, maybe more realistic but it can hold the game up.Took me 12 hours to finish the Poland campaign in a P38t. All in all for what it is, i'm enjoying it.

OK - so I got it whilst on sale - fun "roguelike" game - mind you I've not had the courage to play without those lifesaving "fate" points. I have played the Polish campaign through as the Germans -unlike Budd no Iron Cross -but after a while you are happy enough to survive (unlike quite a few of my crewmates).
Next time I play I won't however use a Panzer II - literal death traps to even AT rifles.

I am playing the Polish Campaign and allowed the game to allocate a tank randomly, only as I had no idea what I was doing! However, it allocated me a Pz III, without which I fear I'd have been eliminated by now. Pz II must be a nightmare!

PzII -definite death trap - I think I had about 6 shot out from underneath me. very susceptible not only ATRs but also grenades. And as for 37mm ATGs ..............!
But if you really want to try and take your life in your hands and live on the edge try the Polish tankette !

For a $10 game I've sunk quite a few hours in already - addictive like the original "Patton's Best" - apparently the alpha for vers 5.0 comes out in a few days
