I was searching for American Civil War games last night on various sites and platforms and came across this one called Grand Tactician: The Civil War 1861-1865.

I had not heard of it, but it looks interesting to say the least. There is a game trailer that shows pre-alpha footage on that link. Apparently it is slated to release this summer 2020.

Not sure if this had been shared previously on here, but thought I'd throw it out for others that like ACW games.

Just found this game yesterday actually and was coming here to see if anyone had talked about it! It looks really promising to me. Very excited about it.

Yes, I actually have interacted with the people behind "Grand Tactician: Civil War" just to ask them if I can use some of their Youtube video to make a "Upcoming" video on my own channel.

They immediately responded and said "OK, go ahead, thanks for your interest."

This game looks phenomenal. It has a detailed economic model, it has a grand campaign map that looks like you can seamlessly zoom in to a tactical map. It's like they listed everything they think should be in a game like this and then have been implementing it, like even picking up firearms on the battlefield and using them in the battle.

Two things I did not see that may be crucial, though, are 1. Multiplayer, or at least 2 player possibility. 2. Buying weapon upgrades for units.

It may be they are in there, I just did not see it.

Edit: So, after watching more of the videos, maybe all of them, I have seen a comment from the Grand Tactician people that multiplayer will not be included initially. So, no playing against friends on a dedicated server or by email, at first, but hopefully later.

I've watched all the videos I could find on this title. Philippe Thibault had some glowing praise of its gameplay on their blog:

It's made it's way to the top of my list. Looks like an enticing combination of Scourge of War & Ageod's AACW.

Waited for that movement, and finally it is going to happen!

I would love to see a modern American Civil war game.

Frankly, I would love a modern rendition of Sid Meier's Gettysburg, and possible other battles included, or perhaps such a system coupled with a dynamic campaign covering the whole Civil War. I know there was the Ultimate General series, but I was pretty unimpressed with it.

It sure looks interesting. In this game, you can choose your side in the Civil War. Nation building is interesting. Charts and maps are cool. Nice character descriptions and stats.

Although it will release as Early Access on that date...personally I don't mind, but I know others prefer to wait until official release.

It looks really promising - the press release says scenarios with campaign starts at 1861, 1862 and 1863 plus 11 standalone battles. They plan to also include later an 1864 campaign star. I don't usually go for early access but I may make an exception here.

We will see. Not holding my breath. The build up is almost always bigger than the product. Just saying.[;)]

There hasn't been much build-up or hype for this game, from my POV. Found out about it several months ago (though I don't remember how) and signed up for email notices. They don't even have a forum, and just use those on steam.

Personally, I think it is a very ambitious game and likely to ship with a lot of bugs.

What I like about it is that it has an operational aspect you almost never see in a war game of this type. So, as the battle starts up, you will give orders to your Corps and they will enter the battle... when they get there. Pretty cool.

I'll be going early access, but as I said, I expect the game to have a lot of issues at the start.

I subscribe to "The Strategy Wargamer." He's done quite a few videos on the game, but also is a general "matrix games" kinda guy.
