I havent tested it yet, but I would think than they would affect the amount of money than you receive as "tax" from them, as it worked on Distant Worlds: Universe

The private economy bonus increases your private economy by 40%... that increases the money your civilians make. While that does have an effect on your tax revenues, the biggest effect is how rapidly your private economy expands, providing employment and quality of life upgrades for your population as a whole generally far sooner then you can.

I know this is an old post, but can't find the answer anywhere. Private economy bonus is clear, it increases the private credit income.

But what does the commerce bonus do? There are two commerce bonuses, 100% and 200% in the commerce ideology tree. Tax bonus is in another tree, so that's not it. Manual doesn't mention the commerce bonus either.

Any ideas?

I asume it has something to do with the Private Economy. Given that this seems the goal of Commerce.

According to its description in the Feats and Bonus Overview report, the Commerce Bonus allows your traders to make more favorable deals with traders from other regimes. In theory this should increase their overall wealth and ability to procure resources for you or your population, or to buy them off you. It's also supposed to improve "Micro Trading in your Zones", whatever that means.

I experience an immensely high IP output from my light industry assets. I have all but 90+ commerce bonuses.

Will update this post when I have a suiting screenshot

This bonus honestly seems a bit excessive. How much Commerce Bonus do you have? Do you got a source besides profiles, like some of the Cults or a Corporation?

I get 141-144 extra IP, depending on when the bonus applies.

The Private Economy Bonus is the one that boosts production from private assets. With both the Free Market and Corporations regime feats, you get +120% (and this is only a couple of IP off from being exactly consistent with the values in the above screenshot).

In case others come along to this post, from the manual:
*=Commerce Bonus allows your Traders to outwit other Traders when trading with
them, resulting in them buying cheap and selling high. Furthermore the higher your
Commerce Bonus the lower their margin (the higher their buy price will be) when
dealing with you
