I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong, but I believe Vic said in an interview that basically he wanted to complete the game with everything working great for the ground war so he can get it into player's hands. If the game does well enough, he'll look into adding water and air in a free update.

Nice. After sea, air, land comes space and planetary invasions right? [8D]

I have already been (day)dreaming about going to space and connecting different planets in a sort of campaign mode.
Just imagine, Vic secretly included a discoverable tech tree for spacefaring and you then get a galactic map and can fly to other planets to colonize those as well in a grand space 4x way.

I hope that at least some form of naval logistics eventually makes it into the game, even if its just bridges (really long bridges). Liquid being an absolute block to expansion isn't cool.
I can totally understand airpower's complete exclusion: Aerodynamics are going to vary on every planet. Low gravity, no atmosphere moons would probably not have airplanes per se, but rather suboribitals. High gravity, thick atmosphere worlds would likely develop primarily lighter-than-air craft that have more in common with submarines than aircraft in function and form.

I don't know...highly toxic water seems like a very real possibility on some of these planets. Or how about sailing on lava? I've also noticed that the planet generator seems to favor generating freaky scary water monsters.
