Very early game, I go to build a road and repeatedly get a message "Dirt Road Construction Mode: No connection to SHQ found."

This makes no sense to me, I am branching off the main existing road very near my SHQ.

You can't build a road through hexes that were just added to your territory this turn.

Thanks, good to know this. But I don't think it explains my problem because these hexes had not been added the previous turn. I had already extended further east and was not getting sufficient supply. I was also getting an unexpected message that I had promised to hold a particular hex/town (news to me) and that I might need a road near it. This was all murky to me, but I figured I'd build a road.

Beorn can you post a screenshot of the situation somewhere and link us to it?

You don't have enough Industrial Points by the looks of it.

Sometimes you need to click on the hex with the SHQ or a road connected to it first, rather than in the adjacent hex. At least that's the issue I had.

Ah, so it's just that the error message is misleading, but there really is a reason why it can't be built. Thanks!
