Really love the game, but I can't figure out how to raise armored formations? I can only raise inf or mech inf? I know how to make armored units, but don't know how to introduce them onto the battlefield?

You should be able to raise independent armored formations(look in the upper-right of the raise formation screen for the checkbox between "with OHQ" and "independent"). If you want multi-card formations containing armor, you'll have to get a staff council and discover/research appropriate OOB's. You can get pure tank formations(armored army) out of that but I prefer getting infantry with tanks attached. Eventually you'll get more combined-arms type formations but those will take some time to be discovered and are expensive to research.

One warning about building medium tank formations: get ready for sticker shock when you see the oil requirements. You are going to thousands in storage just to build them, and a healthy flow of oil just to maintain them. Setting up a strong oil economy is a necessary prerequisite, which can be tricky on lifeless worlds with no oil wells.

Wow thanks for the quick responses. I missed that independent formation need. Also, where exactly do I see potential OOB discover/research options? I can't seem to find the tech tree for formation types?

You need to create the staff division reserch oob discover then take the research about armored

Ok, I did that and I see light armor (which I'm working on). However, like the normal tech tree, is there anywhere I can monitor the progress and look ahead to other OOB formations to research?

You can see the OOB's you have and all of the ones your staff council has made available for research in the reports, I think it's under the main overview as "formation types". Unfortunately I don't think there is a full research tree/list anywhere. I think there is some gating of more capable OOB's but I don't know how much.
