Walkers use Tank Guns, not Quad MGs version 1.03

Even though the in-game text says regular Walkers should use Quad MGs, they use Tank Guns instead when the player designs their models. However, if you manage to loot a GR version of a Walker, it indeed DOES have Quad MGs.

If this is a bug, it'd be good to fix. If it's not a bug, then the description text could use some tuning.

I would like both versions of walkers tbh.

I believe there are both versions in the game. Which model were you designing?

Per the Manual Section 5.12.3.1, Model Types...
Walker - The Walker is a hydraulics based biped that functions much like tank but due to its locomotion can traverse hard terrains (much like infantry). Due to its Heavy Machine Guns it is very effective against especially softer targets.
Heavy Walker - Much like regular Walker, but build with a larger chassis. It can support a Gun of up to 180mm. Its main role would be to destroy enemy Walkers and heavier equipment

In my version of the game, the only Walkers that have machine guns are the ones that you find as GR Equipment. ANY Walker designed by me, be it Heavy Walker or just plain Walker, has Tank Guns.

Am I missing something, if both versions exist in the game? How do I switch to the machine gun Walkers?

What do you see when you look in the model tree view? MNG > Type. See image for example.

Did you get the model as a tech reward or did you move more slowly up the technology chain?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question. I would be very grateful if you could check if you can make a model of a Walker that can use a machine gun of any kind, then post a screenshot of that? I've played seven or so games of this, in at least five have I used both Walkers and Heavy Walkers. Not once have I seen machine guns of any kind on any that I have been able to use.

As you can see from the image-- I don't have the model technology.

In game, you can find that graphic under MNG (top left corner of the game window), then select Type from the tabs that will appear in the top center of the screen.

A new window will open that will show your model type tree progress.

That will tell you what models you have and what you can design.

If you are designing the walker without the twin-heavy MG's then it's a bug.

If you are designing the heavy walker, but it's called walker, then it's a different kind of bug.

etc.

That's why I asked. To narrow down your circumstances when this bug occurs.

Perhaps we are misunderstanding each other.

I can open this view, yes. It shows I have made Walkers. As such, I feel fairly confident that I know what I'm talking about. Those models you see? They all have Tank Guns(105mm howitzers). None of them have any sort of machine guns, whether Heavy Machinegun or Quad Machinegun or anything. As you quoted in the manual, this should not be the case. The "light" Walkers should have some sort of machine gun, but they don't. I believe this to be incorrect and should be fixed. This is supported by the fact that the Galactic Republic version of the Walker(which you can find as treasure from ruins) has in fact Quad Machineguns.

Therefore, I would hope that the developer(Vic?) would address this issue, whether by stating that the "light" Walkers should have Tank Guns, or if that isn't what he intended, to change it so that they have a machine gun of some sort.

Edit: Ah, okay, I understand your point of view on the bug hunt now, I was misunderstanding you a bit, sorry for that.

In any case, the "light" Walker can't have Machine Guns. I'll post a picture of it soon.

And here is the picture of the Walkers, so there's no misunderstanding.

As is visible, I have Mechanized Quad MGs(the armored cars), so I have the Quad MG tech too, so that isn't a problem. And this has been the case in every game I've played, so I think it's universally working like this across all Shadow Empire games everywhere.

Indeed. That looks wrong to me! I'll try to reproduce too.

As an aside, nice work blasting through the tree. Given my play style, models come out like molasses.

Heh, I'm impatient, I want to have everything as quickly as possible so I invest heavily in tech and models and all that. Bureaucracy offices everywhere at max level! :)

There is a hard cap (soft cap in beta) of 100 on any single Council Item.
There is also a modifier to BP production, if you get big. 400 BP is the 0 point.

Thanks for reporting! Fixed it and next open beta the "light" Walkers will be using Twin MGs. As was intended by me in the first place.

Best wishes,
Vic
