Occupying British NM hexes at sea

Can subs in Silent mode occupy the British NM hexes in the Atlantic and have the same effect on British national morale as Subs in Hunt mode or surface ships?
Could enemy mines laid on those hexes also count for suppressing British national morale?
Thanks,
Michael

Yes. The scripts only check for the presence of units (including mines) - unlike the convoy system they do not account for different sub modes.

The presence of any German units, or naval mines, will disrupt merchant shipping and cause a problem for the British.

Does your sub (or ship or mine) have to be ON the next or can it just be adjacent?

For those NM target hexes, I believe your unit needs to be right on the hex to have any effect.

Thanks. I believe for the "supply lines" your sub can be on OR next to them in order to inderdict? But I think you have to be on "raiding" mode. Apparently for the NM hexes you don't have to be in raiding mode but you DO have to be exactly on the hex. Still not sure if you can interdict two supply lines at once by being adjacent to both of them. The details aren't exactly intuitive.

A Sub will only raid one convoy line at a time.
For National Morale hexes just placing a unit on them will have the requisite effect, although if a convoy line is also passing on/adjacent to that hex then you may want to raid it too for maximum effect.

The German AI pulled a nasty one on me by having a silent U-Boat on a UK National Morale hex. It took quite a while to for me to realize that and find it.

Everyone says that you need to be ON the british sea NM hexes but I find that subs can do their NM damage (the event pops up) even on ADJACENT hexes. Can someone confirm this? Because everyone seems to say you have to be directly on the hex and I'm not sure if it's a bug or what but adjacent works for me.

Reducing British National Morale will occur if you are on or adjacent to those hexes, but for maximum effect you should be on the marked hexes because doing so means you may also shut down the British ports.

This is the hidden arcana that Germany uses to shut down Great Britain's ports...on top of the NM hex, submerged, and using no supply when doing this. The Entente, though, can play tic-tac-toe and sit on the NM hexes to thwart this stratagem, but to do this..the blockade they need to keep up suffers. They don't have enough naval assets to do both.
Its a balancing act for both sides, which is a particular conumdrum that has to be played and experienced by both sides, especially in pbem.

So... do I need to pick specific hexes in order to "shut down the ports"? Someone mentioned you want to be in the Irish Sea which seems quite dangerous considering there aren't many directions to safely run in case you get discovered.

Yes, you need to be on the marked hexes, and yes, it is risky! [:)]
