The closest thing it has is a drab, 10-person office,with a small sign on its wooden door in Buenos Aires that reads “Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty”.This is the group whose job it is to keep things running smoothly among the 53 nations that together govern Antarctica....

The US, Russia and China all have critical infrastructure in Antarctica to aid their global positioning systems.“That makes Antarctica very, very interesting right now,” says Prof Brady. She adds that the Antarctic Treaty System may be poorly equipped to respond to a growing “clash of values” in the region....

Antarctica itself is a land mass, but there are permanent ice shelves along the coast that submarines could possibly operate under.

The US McMurdo base is right next to the Ross Ice Shelf, the largest coastal ice shelf with an area of about 470,000 square kilometers (about 181,500 square miles).

The mean thickness of the Ross Ice Shelf is about 330 meters (1,100 feet), a bit deep for Los Angeles-class subs in CMANO but max depth for the Akula (Shchuka-B) and Seawolf classes would allow them to operate underneath.

Surfacing through the ice might be difficult though.

There is a lot to do with this topic..many nations involved..given the interest and the excellent response from you users, we are thinking of creating a (unofficial) campaign..not just a scenario..

We have encountered small problems for the development of the scenario in the south pole area, but we are excited because the developers have decided to help us try to correct the problems by making CMO better .. as always .. an applause to the developers for their availability, their steady and constant work in improving this wonderful simulation and never leaving us even a moment without improvements,updates,and wonderful news.
