Hudson III (LR); what does LR mean?

Playing Guadalcanal scenario vs AI hard and pbem. Allies have a RAAF max 6 plane Hudson III (LR) with not replacements and a RNZAF 12 plane group, which has acquired 11 replacements in the first 20 days.

I can find no reference what (LR) means in the manual or wikipedia on Hudson. Any insight?
----
In game its a medium level bomber; the RNZAF cannot fly out of Lunga (AF=2) so I am using it for ASW out of Noumea/Efate/Luganville. lacks range to bomb Solomons. Given its replacement rate, could get it over to Australia, PM and use a bomber (although inferior to A20s, B26s etc that are already there). The RAAF group is down to 5 planes, due to op loss, 0 replacements.

I've always assumed Long Range; compare it to the normal Hudson.

Yes, Hudson 1 has max range around 9 or 10 hexes. Hudson III LR can go 14 hexes.

Airplane data screen reports extended/normal range of 11/9.

I just looked at a Hudson III LR squadron in my game and it looks like 14 extended/11 normal range to me. I wonder if it's different for smaller scenarios?

I like to use those for ASW.

That sounds like the Hudson 1. The LR version may show on your upgrades line. Even if the upgrade has been set, until the planes arrive you are stuck with the old model.

I have a suspicion that the "LR" designation is just a menaningless, nasty tongue-twister aimed at Asians.

LR - Long Range. Extra fuel cells were added.

I discovered in the GC scenario that I could convert my Australian max 6 plan Hudson III (LR) to a 12 plane Beaufort V group. There were no Australian Hudson replacements but a steady influx of Beaufort replacments. Of course any where my bombers go in New Guinea, if there is Zero CAP then it is a bad day.

In the Guadalcanal scenario the Hudson III (LR) do not get long range. Is 11/9; the Beafort is marginally better in range, durability, and bomb load.
