What was the cross-attachment doctrine of NATO armies in the 1980s?

The US Army cress-attached both at the company and platoon level: Companies were swapped between battalions and platoons swapped between companies. For example, in a brigade a tank battalion my give a tank company to a Mechanized Infantry battalion and receive Mech Inf company in return.

What did the UK, West Germans and French do?

I found this on the British Army. It might be current day but I suspect they were doing this back in the 1980s.

For Germany: Basically the same, but there is no fixed basic rule but some best practices.

Find two Original Battalion TaskOrgs attached. the first from 1988 and the second from 1991.
