Tried to set up a battle. After setting up the parameters (random map) I go to view the map before buying my group and all I see is a blank/black screen. I went in and bought all the equipment to see if that would change things and it didn't. Almost like the random map didn't input anything.

Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing a file?

I have this problem sometimes too. AFAIK the only thing you can do is shut down the program and start over again. Thankfully it doesn't happen that often.

AFAIK, you won't see the map in the setup if you're player 1????

Huh? I think you should be able to see the map by clicking the View Map button in the purchase screen.

I restarted computer and that didn't work. The map is a big black screen. Here's what I am discovering is happening:

1) Can't see map when buying units in "view map" mode.

2) Can't see map or units when deploying units

3) Can't see map or units when moving units

Everything is black.

4) However, I know everything is there. I can let the mouse sit on the screen and it will give me a terrain description and I can tell that I've clicked on a unit and it will move.

5) I can see units and the map in a scenario. There I have no problem.

I guess this is different than the problem I've had. Your gonna need someone smarter than me to help you figure this one out.

Try starting the game from the mech.exe instead of from Spwaw.exe. This will bypass the opening videos. This works with some display problems. Also, shutoff any programs running in the background such as Anti-virus programs, internet explorers, etc.
