Long Range CAP and Tanker problems...

Hi,

I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on these two annoying problems which have cropped up in my current game of scenario 19 as the Japanese versus the AI.

[1] My carrier TF fighters simply will not provide long range CAP for nearby land bases when ordered to, even in fine weather and only a couple of hexes away from the place I need to protect.

[2] My TK replenishment groups accompanying carrier and surface combat TFs will not resupply them, despite having plenty of fuel left - the game just informs me that there is 'no fuel source' when I try it.

Are these bugs, or (as I suspect) am I doing something wrong?

Thanx.

Hmmm. I am not sure about the anwser to your question. But I would recommand you to check the Capacity of the Carriers, see if you have overloaded the carrier. Another thing to ckeck is the moral of your airgroupe. There are many possibilities. Try those two first

Make sure you are clicking the resupply button on the tast force you want to be resupplied and not on the resupplying task force. In your case you should be clicking on the CV force.

Dumb question but are the CVs and replenishment TF in the same hex? Adjacent hexes won't work.

Drex and Yamamoto : Yes, I had a CV TF and a surface combat TF in the same hex as two tanker TFs, and pressing the 'replenish TF at sea' button' for either of the combat TFs just results in the 'no fuel source' message.

Frizt : Regarding long range CAP, my CV fighter groups are at 99 morale and 0 fatigue - so there's no reason why they shouldn't do it. And the carriers are not carrying more than the maximum number of planes.

Any other ideas? My campaign will be seriously hampered if I can't solve these weird problems...:(

Replenishment TF use a ship called an "AO".

A tanker ("TK") is designed to transfer fuel from one base to another.

It is true that a tanker can also resupply at sea but its not supposed to.

Are you sure about this? I thought it was the other way around. I've always used TKs for replenishment at sea, and it's always worked up until now...

I've used both AOs and TKs for replenishment with no problem so something else is going on. Evidently the ships are shown with full fuel loads but actually aren't carrying anything.

Yeah don’t confuse the capacity column with the cargo column. I loaded up an AO group once, and sense I didn’t designate a destination the TF loaded the fuel then promptly unloaded it. When I moved the carrier TF into the same hex to refuel, the replenishment TF was bone dry. I was not happy.

if the TF is a replenishment TF, you don't need a destination and you can actually disband it with the individual ships with full loads. I often set up replenishment ships with full loads and keep them in port for future use.

Done the same myself Drex, always wondered if it was actually a bug or not.

Since all other ships are forced to unload before going to anchor, it always made me wonder if it was just a code problem where the check for disband had a glitch.

It would be nice to do that with cargo ships as well. Thanks for the info. I must have done something else wierd then.

Hi All!

Was there ever an explanation as to why AP's & Ak's must unload prior to being disbanded? Seems I read something about this a long time ago.
