Anyone know if Brest is one of the "Channel Ports" for the purpose of avoiding having UK units stationed there vaporize upon the surrender of France? Also, if any of the other French ports besides St. Malo, Cherbourg and Le Havre qualify, please let me know, thanks.

I don't know about UK ships, but I frequently have UK ground units in one of the Northern French ports or towns when France surrenders. The UK units survive, just fine. I make sure that nothing is in the Vichy area. Vichy is short for vaporize.

Wait the units just portal over on surrender? Ha and here I thought the AI was clever and used transports!

I was a little confused by your post at first as there is nothing special about the Channel Ports as such.

However, as Mithrilotter has pointed out, Allied (non-French) units in what became the unoccupied zone on the formation of Vichy France will be interned. Brest was never part of the unoccupied zone therefore Allied units in Brest will not be interned.

If I understand correctly, they do indeed use transports and do not teleport, same rules for the AI as a human player.

Thanks all. In a game last year, I had stationed a UK unit in Bordeaux (so not in Vichy) in order to annoy GE upon the surrender of France, but instead it disappeared when France surrendered. I think I posted about it and was informed that UK units in the Channel ports are not interned upon the fall of France. So unless something has changed since then (or my memory is mistaken), I'm not sure it is correct that UK units anywhere in occupied France will necessarily avoid internment.

In any event, I have a feeling that I am about to get the answer to my original question in my pending game. . .

Yep, the plucky GAR from the Belgian Congo held Brest after France surrendered.
