Not sure if this is possible but I'm wondering if you can embark units for river transport? Example would be the river transport of units down the Mississippi during the Shiloh Campaign in the ACW. The rivers were a main source of transport for material and troops. On a large scale US Eastern map the rivers would not be deep water but shallow or large rivers. These networks were used like rail systems. Just not sure if the game can simulate that (like the Nile or Rhine rivers).

At present, no. I agree it would be a great addition. But since the game focuses on modern warfare I don't see them making that change. You might be able to achieve some partial river transport effects with map mods, depending on scale.

I'm currently working on a ACW scenario and it is certainly on my to-do list. River supply is a little easier to model. But river transport is going to be a challenge.
