What is the advantage of having a corporation present in your cities?

It gives you more events/stuff to deal with. It's not necessarily an advantage; it's kind of like cults in that it can be very beneficial if you get good events and handle the corporation well, or it can be a serious frustration. I've generally been able to manage corporations well in my games, and they usually help me out in return.

They are a good source of getting good events to increase various profiles, get some leaders, get techs, etc.

They seem to never realy accumulate enough capital to be relevant
