Is submarine raiding/unrestricted worth it in MP?

Playtesting against myself, I'm finding it too difficult as Central Powers to make effective raiding use of my subs. You have to run a gauntlet of ships and mines just to get out of the North Sea (and to return!), and then even if you make it your supply starts going down fast leaving your sub slow and also weak if it gets found. The Entente is occasionally alerted automatically to the location of your subs when you raid, and there's nothing you can do about it. Using "blind" searching (attempting to simulate what a real human might do) as Entente I often find subs and damage or gangbang sink them. The national morale and MPP swing is significant.
Is it really worth it to use subs as raiders against a smart human Entente?
Also sort of related, what does the event "Fear Of German Raiders Upsets Trade From The British Empire" actually do? Thanks.

I too found this difficult and found another way around it. The English Channel. Set up air support to get your subs through.

Cool idea. Do unupgraded naval bombers have a good effect or do you need to upgrade them first? I assume the blimps do nothing but spot

Its worth it (IMO) if the Central Powers player is crafty with his U-boats and gets them onto the NM hexes submerged early on, particularly in Bristol Bay, the Irish Sea and the portion of the North Channel closest to Scotland. This can have the effect of shutting down the ports on Englands west coast for awhile. Now the Brits and French will try to ride them down if they find them, but until they get ASL 1 OR 2, the U-boats are somewhat hard to kill. Its important to move on after a bit, submerged if possible and come back in when the subs supply is down to 5 or so.
One advantage of raiding the NM hexes submerged is that the subs dont use supply unless hit.. The more the CP can harass Britains sea lanes by convoy line raiding, NM hex camping, and or sniping, the harder, possibly, it will be for the Entente to do a full blockade, which if fully up will hurt Germany badly by mid-war even if the Central Powers are ascendant on the continent.
Side note: One twitch skill that comes in handy is to use the CTRL key, holding it down while stitching waypoints and navigating your submerged subs. You can slip through the blockade lines easily...and is good for scouting in patterns while submerged also. Just don't accidentally hold down the shift key..like I have from time to time..that can end in disaster for your boat! [:D]

It reduces your convoy income from the British Empire, and can be dealt with via DE 109 to send naval units to deal with the German naval squadron commanded by von Spee.

They do ok but get that experience as well with the blimps and they do better. Experienced fighters help as well.

Yes but this will get USA into the war earlier so choose your poison...

Well, you have to be judicious with camping on Britains NM sea hexes ...kind of like applying a tourniquet, releasing from time to time and let the blood flow for awhile. [:D]
A maximus approach isn't needed anyway...just occasional disruption of the ports, while keeping an eye on the USA's belligerence.

The best effect if you do enough to block the convoys, also, if you willing to go into some cheese, send two subs for the canadian side, they can block the ports and choke the convoy from that side too, and it takes several turn to go all the way, so the other player either sends several units away for almost a year, or let it just happen, and the US has no issue with this (also the AI simply ignores this.)
