Air Directives Won't Fly

I have come back to this game after not having time for it for a few years.
Did well in the Italy Scenario; but now I am trying the '43 to '44 full theater and cannot get some of my A/Ds to fly at all.

Here is one in the pic below. I am trying to bomb Reggio to take out the port, ferry and rail yards. All Wellington Xs at night - they have been set by me to 'no' (night only). Expanding the panel shown below shows enough range and I manually assigned the aircraft to the A/D. There is a recon A/D on the hex that is flying. First turn, good morale, all squadrons at full strength, load outs have bombs (also tried with fuel tanks and bombs). I doubt supply issues exist on the first turn & air base check seemed OK for supply and resources. I have not moved the planes, they are at their original base.

I tried some searching to no avail. Please what do I do to get some air missions flying here?

Glad to post addl pics & info.

Thanks, Gen. Dad

Tried "Bomb City" & that worked. "Ground Attack" doesn't work. Odd.
The night raid did almost no damage, though. Time to find another use for the aircraft.

Dumb question: did you select ports, railyards for the GA?

Not a dumb question.

Problem might be that I also had 'ferry' selected - which I had forgotten. Still a bigger daylight raid with P-38 escorts does MUCH more damage & losses are acceptable. I learn as I get more experience.

I also had trouble with a GA on HG Pz div in Sicily - the only real threat to a landing. Cutting out the other GA and focusing only on HG Pz seems to work & my troops get ashore. Killing Reggio seems to cause the AI to run for it - but I have not set up Northern Europe yet at all.

Turn 1 is a ton of planning & reorg of air and armies...

Tks, Gen'l Dad.
