Trouble running an old game

I recently felt like playing an old Combat Mission game. I got it installed and went thru the whole setup. When I hit the button to load the game it would say "loading 3D graphics" and wouldn't go any further than that. It never took me to the game screen. Any suggestions?

Code: Select all

https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4064147

different game, but same approach works with most

all you need to do is follow it and then add any pre requisites that the game needs or should install or comes with etc, and game will work with any version of windows 10

attach a report and i'll take a look

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post as it's a Txt file which is then permitted to attach to

for me, system looks very low end, low memory and low VGA base memory wise, but, upgrade the drivers on the VGA to latest and retry and see if that helps

Yeah I've tried that. It says the best driver for the devise is already installed

then if the game is patched up to the latest version and all the pre requsites are installed and it doesn't work, then it's not supported with the hardware on windows 10 as it is, adding more memory would or may help and or a better low end video as well, something with at least 1gb of video memory of it's own etc

Usually it´s a conflict between 32 bit versions and 64 bit these days, with some fix to download if there is any that will be the work around. And mostly, almost always it´s a problem with DirectX or\and your graphic card driver or what have been mentioned so far, too old hardware or vice versa (software too old). Just to perhaps help in centralizing the troubleshooting if possible.

P.S
And still if it´s the latest driver for your card i suggest to consider trying with another one just in case, add it to the list of possible solutions since it´s just a matter of time put into it and the remedy will come or at least you´ll know it just perhaps don´t work at all, time and effort is the cost here.
(But oh so valuable). And oh yeah, i type English really bad at times, third edit of the comment now.
And Hartman, you have Windows 10? Never trust what that one tells you, it´s full of sh*t, the programmers of it are, trust me. It´s a pile of junk and at times quite good. But when it comes to giving you advice on getting things to work, disregard most of what it tells you.

Not sure which old Combat Mission you're trying to run, but GOG has all 3 of the original series, currently on sale for u.s.$3.59 ea. They all installed and run full screen fine on my win10 laptop.
