Strategic Command WWII: World at War joins the list of games which support a tournament system and we’re now ready to start our first tournament. It’s the first game ever in the franchise with tournament support. The tournament will be using the
1939 World at War campaign map.
The Tournament will begin on
November 30th and it will last 2 rounds, each lasting two weeks.
All you need to do is own the game and sign up
here. The system will then pair you with opponents and create your PBEM games for you. You will be notified by mail of when the tournament is starting and when it will be time to play your turns.
It is a Beta tournament so there might be bugs. If you encounter any, please report them in this thread and we will address them.

I've just signed up.
Should be fun and a nice addition to the game.
Will it give players a ranking system or is it purely a knockout system, Also will it be mirrored games or will the players be randomly assigned sides?

Great to hear and yes there will be mirrored games for each round against, as well as a new scoring system that has been implemented to rank your victory/loss per game per round.
Top players will have the highest score at the end of both rounds for this particular beta test of the tournament setup.

Sounds all exciting.
Would you please elaborate on the 14 days/round?
How many turns do we typically need to exchange to finish a full game?

There will be rankings within the tournament itself - it would take forever to find a winner otherwise - but we don't have persistent rankings that build up over time.

It is important to stress that this is a beta tournament we are running. Settings like how many rounds, how long they last, how the scoring works, are things that you can only really test by letting people play. We won't get everything right first time around, which is why the tournament is only two rounds long, which is shorter than we expect a real tournament to run for. So in answer to your question, we're not sure yet; we're running to beta tournament to help us understand better.

What are the commitment expectations - how many turns per day do we need to commit to to make this work?

There is no specific commitment for this particular test tournament, rather we are just hoping that players play as many turns as they can, enjoy the experience and that we can use what we learn from this test of the tournament system to set up an ideal official tournament in the near future.

Is there any chance to increase the number of available slots?

I think the Beta Tournament sign-in is now closed. I received an email that there is no stand-by list for substitute competitors.
I'd join!

Of course there is no reason that 'official' tournament games couldn't also be included in the existing community-run ELO ratings.
(Or the existence of the tournament function might make the ELO ratings entirely redundant, which is also fine

)

Same for me.
Could not find 195665.dat

I had the same problem but I could fix it the following way:
look at any existing .dat file in
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\My Games\Strategic Command Word at War\PBEM++\<matrixusername>
Then copy this file (in the same directory) and rename the copy to the missing dat name e.g. 195673.dat
Hope this helps.
I had to try a few times until I found the solution, hopefully this does not count as reload by the servers.

I clicked on the link in the email to view the "Tournament Rules" and it goes to the Matrix site, but says "Page not found"

Very odd and sorry to see this error popping up as it shouldn't be and didn't happen to us during testing, likely we missed something in our tests.
1) Please navigate to the following folder and then make a copy of the '1939-45 Race to Victory.dat' file:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War\PBEM++\DAT\v1.08.01
2) Then navigate to the following folder and place it there:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War\PBEM++\<matrixusername>
3) Rename this file to the missing dat file name, e.g. 195673.dat in your case. The game should run fine after that.

Hi Fafnir,
Sorry this happened to you as well, please make sure you grab the correct 1939-45 Race to Victory.dat file when you do this from the DAT subfolder as I described to Amadeus.

We were too fast I guess. Now we play a 1939 World at War mirror.
