The first ten tutorials are fixed size. Once you get to Tutorial 12, you'll see how to adjust the sizes of the various map and other windows and how to save those settings.

IIRC, 1024 x 768 for those screens. This can also be affected by your Windows Display settings.
I make good use of my two 1920 x 1080 monitors when playing the actual game.

That's what they look like. I found it frustrating as well.
