The extract below from Air War Against Japan 1943- 1945 by George Odgers (Australian War Memorial, Canberra, 1957) shows just how devastating a heavy bomber raid can be against an unprotected target.

Some players on the Japanese side have commented on the lack of engineering vehicles in the game but I think this is only another example of how the designers have gotten it right when compared to historical examples like this one.

actually it speaks more to the resiliancey of airbases themselves vs their vulnerability which was the genesis of these low-alt tactics, designed to take out the aircraft on the ground. Without aircraft, a field is only good for Rugby :D The same formula was later applied by the Fifth/Third Fleets during their famous "plane raid" strikes prior to a major amphib operation.

UV tends to favor airbase damage over aircraft damage, the former, which while a real factor....is IMO too easy to produce.......its one thing to see a 50-80+ bomber raid plaster an airfield for a week straight....but another for say, 12 B-17's to knock out a size 5 airbase in two days.

Conversely, that 80+ plane raid will rarely hit a plane on the ground.

The building impression i've gotten is that hit resolution at base hexes is too small "mathematically speaking." Its the same for shore bombardment. Its hard to miss in other words
