Failed paradrop in blitz combat.

In Ronnie's current AAR, the Germans made a blitz attack with a paradrop in the attacked hex. They are using the 2d10 CRT. The Germans did not take the hex, and suffered a combat result of one unit lost. I think that the Germans should have to lose a MOT, MECH, ARM, or HQ-ARM unit first, and after that, the parachute unit would be destroyed. Yes, this is one more loss than the CRT calls for, but the parachute unit is not being destroyed because of the CRT, but because of the failure of the Germans to empty the hex of enemy units. After all, no one would think it strange if the parachute unit died on a result of -/-.

Is this correct? Should two German units have died here? If not, why not?

I believe yes, according to your reasoning. First needs to be a "blitz type" unit and if you don't take the hex, then the paratrooper.

Actually, upon taking a closer look at the attack, the Germans used an ENG's cross river attack ability. So it should have been the first loss, not a mot class unit. After that, the parachute unit would still be destroyed.
