So I was doing a "Sandbox" scenario where I was trying having the tankers in the mission as Escorts (so they stay with the bombers) but it doesn't matter despite having the doctrine for the side and units set to refuel the aircraft refuse to refuel. This is not the first time I've encountered this and no change in doctrine seems to solve the issue!

So here are the messages where the aircraft refuse to refuel and the doctrine settings for the group. Maybe I'm missing something gere but what I don't know.

So as a group it does say you can refuel, but once you select individual bombers, it says they can't refuel. So using unit over group will allow you to fix it.

TY. Wasn't sure whether it was a tech issue or I was just missing something?

My guess is that the individual planes have an overriding ROE. I run into this myself sometimes - my habit is to always reset the units in the group to default so the group ROE takes control.

I did try setting the Doctrine for individual aircraft without success. In fact I reset Aircraft, Groups and side Doctrine, again without success.

What I did for this was..
Go to the mission of the group Mugger87
Click on the mission Doctrine
Click on Reset Affected units (forces all assigned units to match this ROE)
Close down the ME screens and try refueling Mugger87

OK, for the record I didn't put this in Tech support. But I think the question comes to mind, if the player can't get them to refuel, because of all the different areas where doctrine can cause an issue, isn't that something that's going to frustrate the players? I know I've encountered refueling issues so many times where I've unassigned the aircraft from missions and changed doctrine everywhere I can find and to no avail. So maybe you can get it to work, but if the player cant...

BTW, to assist in mismatched ROE, it is planned to 'color-code' the options that differ between the selected ROE and the affected units.
Example for the Mugger87 group.
It indicates that the ROE differs between the group ROE and the individual planes.

There are just too many places were the doctrine can get messed up, so yes, IMHO, (for what it is worth) that would be an awesome player aide!
