Autosave??

How do you turn on autosave for TOAW files? I have TOAW autofiles on my computer, so I know they can be created. I cannot find the option to turn them on in any game menu. The manual also does not say how to turn it on, but says that there is a line in OPART4.ini to do so. That line is not present in my version of OPART4.ini.
This is very frustrating, why is such a basic feature so hard??

I asked for a configurable autosave function for the editor and was told that wuz stoopid. Welcome to Bizarro World. Stuff you want is stupid and stuff you get is undocumented and unasked for.

But...but...I'm not asking for something new, the manual references it, and I have autosave files on my computer from a month ago! I just can't figure out how they were created!
Is it really too much to ask that basic features like autosave that are described in the manual actually function? Anyone? Anyone?

OK, if anyone else is interested, I figured out how to turn on autosave--you have to activate either the PO Log, the Unit PO Log, or Uberdude (all under the Players Options menu). The first two create an "auto.sal" file, while Uberdude creates an auto sal file with the scenario name and force turn. Of course all of these options spam your computer with unwanted log files, and IIRC some of them also create a bunch of noise in the game situation briefing, which I don't want.
The fact that there is not a simple switch to turn on autosave in a twenty year old game that previously had the feature is, well, absolutely pathetic.

Again, first I've heard of any issue with autosave.

Hard to complain about a feature few are aware of. Not the first time for that. [;)]

I didn't know you could turn this off. As long as I've been playing TOAW, it has always created an "autosave" at the start of every turn.

mea culpa, it looks like the game does automatically create an auto.sal file...I had been looking for an autosave file named like this: autoBlitzkrieg 1950 t001 Big Red.sal, and didn't find it until I turned Uberdude on. Since the manual said that the game "can optionally create/overwrite an autosave.sal file every five minutes" I figured that was how it worked, but didn't find such a file when I searched for it...because it is called auto.sal...

19.10. Opart4.ini File
autosave=N Autosaves game every 5 minutes.
So that would be the one highlighted red, I think. The others are saved every book keeping phase, I think.

What I'm saying is that there is no "autosave" line in the Opart4.ini file.

Any line that isn't there can be added. I have 90 lines in mine [:)]
EDIT: I think I haven't seen it discussed in a while so I guess I should add - always save your Font and OPART ini files so that you can add them to a new install. Sometimes it is also necessary to do this for a patch.

OK, well that something I didn't know. How do you know which lines you can add? Are all of them described in the manual, or are there more?
